How to build an igloo?

At the risk of breaking the myth of the little Eskimo stacking snow cubes (you still believe in it?), here are some explanations on how we have been building our igloos for all these years.

The first step consists of creating a cultivation snow reserve of about 8000m². Once the snow is ready, the construction of the igloo can start.

To do this, we use modules of different sizes, which we place on a compacted and groomed floor. Once in place, the module is inflated and snow is thrown on it. After a slight hardening, we deflate the mold, remove it, then we start again next to it with another shape, to create a corridor or a new room, and so on… The groomers play an essential role in this step. They are the ones who project and move the snow to the right place, accomplishing work of exceptional precision.

This first step takes about 5 days to complete. Once the structure is in place, it’s time to enter the belly of this snow giant to arrange, cut, sculpt and decorate.

This second step requires ten days and the involvement of about fifteen people! indeed, build an igloo this size requires the collaboration of various professions, including carpenters, architects, electricians, sound technicians and, of course, sculptors. They are the latters who, thanks to their talent, add an artistic dimension and give life to the igloo. They give it an identity and create fascinating creatures on the walls of the bar, rooms and different igloo rooms.

In the end, building an igloo village looks a bit like a game. It’s like building a giant sandcastle, but with snow! It’s impressive to see this giant igloo emerge, knowing this structure is ephemeral and that it will disappear in a few months…

Here, you now know everything. Building a giant igloo is an adventure that requires a generous amount of snow, great imagination and exceptional teamwork!
